Leadership was the topic of the week for me this week. I was given the opportunity to lead the Women’s Field Hockey team through their entire workout that consisted of a warm-up, stretch, agility work, and a lift. This gave me a great chance to work on the coaching techniques that Sarah had gone over with me the week before, including body language, tactile coaching, and verbal cuing. This was an exciting experience that I truly enjoyed. After the workout was complete Dan and I discussed different styles of coaching and I was able to reflect upon my experience. This week was also my first exposure to inspiratory training. This type of training is done with a handheld device that can be adjusted to increase resistance when inhaling. The theory behind this technique is that through training the muscles you use to breathe will require less oxygen and that oxygen can then be utilized in other parts of that body. I am very interested in learning more about this unique type of training and how it affects the body on the physiological level.
