Hello my name is Kimberly Pzegeo. I am currently completing the last part of my undergraduate degree with this internship experience. I completed my undergraduate coursework at the University of New Hampshire, where I studied Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science. Since a young age I have always had a passion for sports, which have always been a major part of my life. While in high school I realized that I wanted to have a career that involved this passion. Most of my life I have been involved with cycling and figure skating where I had raced and competed. Currently I am always looking for new ways to challenge myself, from cycling to running and to resistance training.
When I first entered college I had every intention of becoming a doctor for a sports team, that was my dream, but three weeks into my freshmen year I realized that was not an attainable goal for me. I then took an interest to training athletes in a strength and conditioning setting. For the next few semesters, I only have my classroom knowledge to back up my career goals. Last summer I had the amazing opportunity to intern at a private strength and conditioning facility, where I was able to gain experience in the strength and conditioning field. Before this experience I was always afraid I would complete an exercise wrong, but after the fact I was confident with many more different movement patterns. I was able to develop a greater amounts of knowledge in the field I one day want to be part of. This experience helped me prepare for the next year to come in school, where I had my own clients to train as part of the curriculum. I knew going into the summer I want to look for an experience at a Division 1 school in Boston to get further immersed in the field because I knew that would expand my knowledge greatly.
While at Northeastern I want to expand my knowledge of coaching different sports and how to go about training these athletes specifically for their sport. Already after just being here for a few short days, I already can see the wealth of knowledge the Center for Sports Medicine and Performance has and I cannot wait to get the chance to learn from its existing staff. I am very grateful to have been selected for an opportunity to work with the other individuals of Northeastern University Strength and Conditioning. After my time here at Northeastern I plan on attending graduate school to receive my master’s degree, specifically relating to sports performance, to allow me to have a strong background and foundation for my career. I also hope in the near future to receive my CSCS.
