My journey into strength and conditioning began on a crisp fall afternoon in 2003. I was a freshman on the soccer team and today we were doing a conditioning run of about 3 miles. I had finished well ahead of the rest of the team like usual and was waiting for everyone to get back when the track coach came up and talked to me. He said he was impressed with my run and I should try out for the track team. After much egging on by friends I gave it a shot and 4 months later I was at my first practice. Now the track team didn’t have tryouts like most other teams instead they had developed a system that was a true trial by fire, anyone who didn’t quit after the first week of practice was on the team. Up until that first day of practice I had never been outrun by anyone but low and behold I was left hundreds of yards behind. That was when my journey truly began.
By the end of that season I was in the best shape of my life and the next seasons soccer conditioning was a breeze, almost boring. I marveled at the changes but more at how and why they had occurred. When it came time to go to college I decided that since I could never see myself not being physically active or in some way involved with sports and training, exercise science would be a perfect fit and I pursued it at Bridgewater State University. I graduated in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree and the following winter obtained my C.S.C.S. from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Currently I am a Personal Trainer and am Volunteering for the internship program at Northeastern University because I want to continue following my passion.
