This week demonstrations on lower quarter screening were performed. I found the demonstrations to be very helpful and informative. Proper technique, coaching cues, and coaching style were all topics covered. In the technique section I learned how to pick up on small biomechanical problems such as location of driving points by looking at foot contact and pressure. I also learned how to assess which muscles are firing for any given exercise. This can be accomplished by watching for a shift in the athletes’ center of gravity and by doing something as simple as asking the athlete where they feel each exercise. In the coaching sections of the demonstration I learned how to present myself in an open, trusting manner and how to enhance my tactile cues for each specific lift that we covered. I am happy to say that I have already had the opportunity to take the information I learned and apply it in the real world setting. I also found that it was easy to use the information given and apply it in a broad sense to enhance my coaching style.
Howdy. Welcome to Northeastern Strength and Conditioning!
